Ping handler - tests basic connectivity and authentication.

This handler accepts an optional message parameter and returns a normalized response.
If no message is provided, it returns "pong". If a message is provided, it returns
the trimmed message.

Authentication: Required (Bearer token)

Parameters:
- message (string, optional): Message to echo back

Returns:
- reply (string): Normalized message or "pong" if empty
