How this calculator works

Transfer fee equals balance × entered fee percent and is added to the new balance immediately. Monthly interest uses the promo rate for exactly the entered promo months, then the post-promo rate. Compare repayment totals only when both cards repay within 600 months.

Worked example

Transferring 1,200 with a 5% fee starts the new card at 1,260. At a 0% rate lasting six months with 100 monthly payments, 660 remains when the promotion ends; at a 12% annual post-promo rate, the next month adds 6.60 interest.

Assumptions and limits

Uses monthly interest instead of issuer-specific daily balances. Assumes the entire balance transfers, no new purchases, no missed payments and no other fees. A 0% offer can still charge a transfer fee. A zero-month promotion starts immediately at the post-promo rate.

How to choose your inputs

Copy the transfer fee, promotional rate, promotion length and later rate from the actual offer. Use a monthly payment you plan to maintain after the promotion, not an amount chosen only for the introductory period. In this model the fee joins the transferred balance; costs paid separately or a minimum dollar fee may need a different calculation.

How to interpret your result

The displayed remaining balance is at payoff or the simulation cap, not at the promotion-end date. Check an issuer schedule separately for debt left when the promotion expires. Compare repayment cost only when both alternatives clear. A low promotional rate can still be costly with financed fees or a high later rate; new purchases, changing minimums and missed-payment consequences are outside this model.
