Credit Card Payoff Calculator

Plan a fixed payment for an existing card balance. Use the amount you intend to pay each month, rather than a minimum-payment percentage that could decline over time.

Enter all amounts in one currency. Currency selection changes labels, not amounts or jurisdiction. No conversion is performed.

How this calculator works

Each month interest is added at annual rate / 12, then the entered payment is applied. The final payment is limited to the amount due. Simulation stops at payoff or 600 months.

Worked example

For a 1,000 card balance at a nominal 12% annual rate, a 600 payment leaves 410 after month one. Month two adds 4.10 interest and needs a final payment of 414.10, for 14.10 total interest.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes no new borrowing, missed payments, fees or rate changes. Unpaid results show interest and payments only within the 600-month simulation, not a lifetime cost. Actual daily interest and rounding can differ. Does not reproduce an issuer’s minimum-payment formula, daily average balance or multiple purchase and cash-advance rate buckets.

How to choose your inputs

Use the current card balance, the applicable purchase rate and a fixed monthly amount you intend to keep paying. A statement’s minimum payment may change as the balance changes, so entering today’s minimum as a constant does not reproduce the issuer’s minimum-payment schedule. Separate balances with different rates rather than blending them without checking the effect.

How to interpret your result

If interest consumes the payment, the balance does not fall; increasing the horizon alone will not solve that problem. Compare a realistically larger fixed payment with the first run to see the change in time and interest. The estimate assumes no later charges, so a plan that continues using the card needs additional budgeting.
