How this calculator works

Inverts the fixed monthly amortization formula at the entered nominal annual interest rate. Purchase budget equals supported loan principal plus the down payment. At zero interest, principal equals payment multiplied by months.

Worked example

A payment budget of 100 over 12 months at zero interest supports 1,200 of borrowing. Adding a 500 down payment gives a purchase budget of 1,700.

Assumptions and limits

This payment-based budget excludes insurance, fuel, maintenance, registration and purchase taxes or fees unless you reserve for them separately. It does not determine lender approval or a safe household spending level.

How to choose your inputs

Decide how much monthly cash remains for the loan after reserving fuel, insurance, maintenance and other transport costs. Enter that loan-only budget, available down payment and proposed terms. Because purchase taxes and fees are outside the displayed price budget, reserve cash for them or reduce the vehicle-price target accordingly.

How to interpret your result

The result is the price supported by the payment assumption, not a household affordability verdict. Extending the term can raise this price while also raising interest and the time you remain in debt. Compare shorter terms and smaller prices before deciding whether a payment-based target leaves enough room for other priorities.
