How this calculator works

Uses the fixed-payment annuity formula with a nominal annual return compounded monthly. At zero return, the monthly withdrawal equals starting balance divided by months.

Worked example

A balance of 120,000 with zero return supports 1,000 per month for 120 months, leaving no modeled balance at the end.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes a constant return and full principal depletion. Excludes inflation, taxes, fees, market variability and longevity beyond the chosen horizon. This is not a sustainable-withdrawal guarantee or a pension quote.

How to choose your inputs

Enter the portion of retirement assets intended to fund these withdrawals, excluding assets reserved for another use. Choose a withdrawal duration and nominal return assumption; do not enter an annual spending target in the starting-balance field. Run a zero-return scenario to see the payment supported by principal alone over the chosen horizon.

How to interpret your result

The equal payment is designed to deplete the modeled balance at the end, not preserve it indefinitely. Compare the nominal payment with a budget that considers taxes and future purchasing power. Living beyond the chosen horizon can leave you without these funds; lower returns or larger withdrawals can exhaust them sooner. The form does not calculate a probability of success.
