How this calculator works

An effective annual return is converted to its equivalent monthly rate. The starting balance grows monthly and one twelfth of the annual contribution is added at each month end. Growth equals the ending balance minus the starting balance and all deposits. No contribution deduction is applied.

Worked example

With a 1,000 starting balance, an eligible 3,600 annual contribution, a one-year horizon and 0% return, the projected Roth balance is 4,600, all from the starting balance and deposits.

Assumptions and limits

US federal 2026, USD. The combined traditional/Roth IRA limit is 7,500, or 8,600 at age 50 or older, subject to eligible compensation and other rules. The 8,600 form ceiling does not establish your limit; Roth income phaseouts and existing IRA contributions can reduce it. This is a growth projection, not a contribution-eligibility or withdrawal-tax calculator. Tax-free treatment requires qualified distributions; age and holding-period rules are not tested. No withdrawals, penalties, inflation, volatility, annual cap changes or future-law changes are modeled.

How to choose your inputs

Enter your starting Roth IRA balance, planned annual contribution, effective annual return and investment horizon. Amounts are USD under a US federal 2026 reference framework. The general combined Traditional and Roth IRA contribution limit is $7,500, or $8,600 at age 50 or older, subject to taxable compensation and other restrictions. Check your own income eligibility and contributions to other IRAs separately. Accepting an amount up to the input ceiling does not confirm that you may contribute it.

How to interpret your result

The projection splits each annual contribution into twelve equal month-end deposits and converts the effective annual return to an equivalent monthly rate. Investment growth is the ending balance less the starting balance and new deposits. No withdrawals, separate fees or inflation adjustments are modeled. Qualified Roth distributions are assumed for this growth illustration; the result does not confirm tax-free withdrawal treatment or satisfaction of holding-period and distribution rules. Contributions and returns stay fixed across the horizon, without forecasting future tax law or limits. This is educational information, not personalized tax advice.
